Universal Principles: The Law of Polarity

Greetings all! I hope everyone is well and enjoying all the love and healing energy the Universe has to offer. Today we are moving on to the next Universal Principle, the Principle of Polarity.

What is polarity? When referring to physics, which we will refer to quite often when discussing the energy fields and operations of the Universe, it is defined as the following:

"The Principle of Polarity affirms the fact that everything in the Universe is dual, i.e. having two poles." (Cooper, 2011)

In other words, everything created has an 'opposite'. Even during my years as a devout Christian, (meaning I was extremely religious, but neglected the spiritual part of my growth) I often pointed out to my husband that everything was created with an opposite. I saw this in the personalities of people (especially couples), in the animals, in the seasons, in nature as a whole. I truly believe this was the beginning of my Spiritual understanding and growth. Simple examples of this would be day and night, hot and cold, male and female. Everything was created with balance.

I've now come to understand, that these are not 'opposites' at all, but are various degrees of the same thing. These things are varying degrees of energy. There is no inherently evil or negative energy, nor is there an inherently good or positive energy. Energy is energy. It is neutral. It is our intent that begins to create the negative effects or the positive effects. The saying that, "there's a little good in everyone," is actually very accurate. Our thoughts, our intent, whether we are focusing on good or evil is what manifests the person, place, thing, etc. We will get into that one more when we discuss the Universal Principles of Cause and Effect and the Universal Principle of Manifestation. For now, let's continue discussing the Principle of Polarity.

Because these opposites are in fact varying degrees of the same energy, this principle helps to support or substantiate the fact that there are no absolutes in nature or the created. Yet these varying degrees of energy actually keeps the very existence of humankind in balance. As we all can probably attest to, it takes balance in any given situation to produce some sort of harmony.
Let's take a look at the absence of absolutes. How does that work? Well, let's take the example of a reformed criminal. A young man, at the beginning of his life was dealt what we would call 'a bad hand'. He was raised in poverty, his father was absent, his mother was an alcoholic and he was surrounded by crime his entire childhood. Though he tried to stay on the right path, he was easily influenced by the people and things around him and drops out of school. Faced with the need to care for himself financially, he goes out and tries to find a job. However, with only a 10th grade education, that is extremely difficult if not impossible. So he goes back to his friends in his neighborhood who has gone down a similar path as he has to seek advice. He gets involved in drugs and petty crimes only to end up in prison. While in prison, this same young man suddenly makes a change. He has gone back to his studies in order to complete his G.E.D. He begins to study religion and apply the lessons to his daily living. He comes up for parole, gets out and goes on to pursue a college degree and career. 10 years later this young man is a successful business man with a beautiful family, spiritual grounding a desire to help others. Now, some people look at this example and say that the prison system obviously did their job. This man has been scared straight. Well, that could be true, but considering our prison system is in need of some serious changes, I doubt it.....But that's MY opinion and that's another subject. From a Universal standpoint, what has happened is the energy that this young man was putting into the criminal activities was decidedly transmuted into another degree of energy. One that would be considered positive energy.

That is what the Principle of Polarity allows. It allows us, based on our own choices and decisions to transmute the energy to the degree that feels comfortable to us. (Free Will!!!) It brings balance to us. You must have adequate light (day) and water to grow a plant. But you cannot overexpose a plant to light and water because it will not grow. What occurs is the balance in nature for the plant to grow. So you don't have an overexposure of light (day) the varying degree or changing energy transmutes itself into night (darkness) and/or dryness (a discontinuation of the rain/water). All things created work the same way.

We must embrace the light and dark in ourselves in order to better accept and love ourselves unconditionally. We all have a 'dark' side that we try to keep locked away. (That doesn't mean that we are bad people.) However, locking away this darkness and only allowing the 'light' within us to show is actually stiffling our ability to grow and love. It takes acknowledging and accepting our light and dark selves to bring balance. We must acknowledge this and take back control from the ego. For it is the ego that grows strong and pushes us to do undesirable things, when the dark side is hidden away. By accepting both sides, you balance out who you are and the ego is left with nothing to use as a weapon.
